Sue passed away peacefully in her home in Bothell on Friday, March 22, 2024. She lived a full life, guided by her faith and the love of family, friends, and her community. Although born in Arkansas, at a young age she moved to Brewster, WA with her parents and 9 siblings, where the family began their successful apple business. She was always surrounded by a large, loving family, and her uncles doted on her as a baby, nicknaming her the “Rose of Sheridan.” Sue graduated from Brewster High School before moving to Seattle to work, where she met Kay Cowan who would become Sue’s lifelong friend.
Sue married Frank Lubash on April 29, 1961 in Seattle, WA. They had 5 children, Bob, Kathy (Russ-deceased), Gin (Brad), Laura (Ciara), and Larry. Sue had 12 grandchildren: Brett (Kristin), Adam (Heidi), Kyle (Traci), Drew (Polin), Lauryn (Jake), Marlene, Amanda, Luke, Jamie (Tallon), Karly (Jonny), Leah (Ryan) and Zack, 2 great-grandchildren: Kate and baby girl Lubash (arriving this Spring), and Piper, as well as her beloved pups, Cinnamon and Belle. She is also survived by her sister Reba and brother Jerry (Camille) of Brewster, and brother Bob (Margo) of Wenatchee.
Sue’s family was her pride and joy, especially her grandchildren. She stayed in touch with her relatives, calling, visiting, and travelling with them her whole life. She loved them with all her heart, and was loved by those whose lives she touched. Sue was community-minded, especially when it came to improving the lives of children. She spent years coaching youth soccer and softball, acting as a Camp Fire leader, and was a board member of the Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Association. She spent countless hours in her children’s schools and in PTA activities. She was passionate about education, particularly when her son, Larry, was born with a disability. She became active in promoting quality public education for all students, serving on the Edmonds School Board for 2 years and the State Educational Service District Board for 8 years. Her love of children and focus on education impacted the lives of many families, as she worked tirelessly as an advocate. What Sue loved most in her life was sharing experiences with the grandkids. Special memories include “The Grandkids’ Convention” which she held yearly. They travelled to places like the ocean, Birch Bay, or even her house, where the grandkids would be loved on, spoiled, taken on outings, and hold a talent show. For many years, it was the highlight of her and the grandkids’ summer. As a mom and grandma, she also attended as many school programs, concerts, plays, graduations, and sporting events as she could, and was always our #1 fan. Sue worked as a grocery store clerk for Olson’s, then QFC, for almost 20 years before retiring. She made many friends, co-workers and customers alike. Customers would actually wait in line so they could specifically talk to her. Sue’s life touched so many. She leaves behind a legacy of love and caring that will continue in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and other family and friends who knew and loved her. She is now at peace, having gone to meet her Heavenly Father and reunite with those who have passed before her.
A memorial and reception for Sue will take place at Bothell United Methodist Church at 2pm on Saturday, April 13. The church address is: 18515 92nd Ave NE, Bothell, WA, 98011.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Provail, an organization committed to supporting people with disabilities to fulfill their life choices, in which Larry is very active. Mom would be honored to have you donate to an organization so dear to her heart.
