William W. Walsh, Sr., age 76, of Exeter, NH and formerly of Lynn, passed away on May 4, 2011 at home after a lengthy illness with his family at his side. He was the husband of Janice A. (Pilling) Walsh with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Joseph W. Sr., and Thelma (Teague) Walsh. He is survived by a son William W. Walsh, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Upton, MA, three daughters Cheryl A. Lavigne and her husband Conrad of Seabrook, NH, Lori A. Auld and her companion Kevin of Peabody, and Catherine A. Bailey and her husband William of Peabody. He is predeceased by a son Richard William Walsh.
He was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1952, and also attended Lynn Burdett College. He was on the class reunion committee for Lynn English’ 50th Reunion. He served in the U. S. Army Security Agency from 1952 to 1955. He served in Germany from 1954 to 1955.
He worked at Cushman Bakery before going to work at the United States Postal Service in 1958. He retired from the Postal Service as Manager of the Saugus Post Office in 1989. After retirement, Bill was a starter at the Middleton Golf Course.
Mr. Walsh also leaves one brother Joseph W. Walsh of Lynn, one sister Sandra I. Wall of Swampscott, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is the brother of the late Donald R. Walsh and Frances V. Wendell.
Bill was a member of the Peabody/Lynn Lodge of Elks and was a past Exalted Ruler of the Lynn Lodge of Elks. He was a Past President of the Northeast District Letter Carriers Association, Past Secretary of Branch 7 N.A.L.C. in Lynn, and a past President of Branch 498 NAPS. He was a Pine Grove Cemetery Commissioner from 1986 to 1992.
Bill lived most of his life in Lynn before retiring to Exeter, NH. He loved playing golf and traveling, especially with his family. He had a special bond with each of his grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
His funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 9th at 11 AM in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 PM.
