Mary Agnes (Rodican) Calnan, age 96, of Lynn, died peacefully at home on Thursday, September 21, 2023 surrounded by her family and devoted caretakers. Mary was born on Crummy Long Lane in Co. Leitrim, Ireland. She was pre-deceased by her husband, William B. Calnan, former Deputy Director of the Lynn Housing Authority. Her parents, James and Mary Ellen (McKeon) Rodican, also pre-deceased her along with her brothers, Andrew, Patrick and John.
Mary emigrated to the United States in 1948. She began her new life as a domestic with her dear friends and fellow Irish immigrants, Kathleen Mannion Calnan, Bridget Ryan Kane and Mary Powers. The four remained life-long friends and her best friend, Kathleen, became her sister-in-law.
She leaves her sons Kevin (Keleigh), Brian (Kit), John, Billy (Jill), and her daughters Carmel and Mary Ann. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Padraig (Julia), Rory (Kelly), Connor, Adam, Stacy (Louis), John (Laura), Keara, Krysta, Jeremy (Brenna), Kylie, Ethan, and Mary Ellen, and her beloved great-grandchildren, Patrick, Andrew, Nathan, Rowan, Conrad, Hailey, and Mikayla. Mary also leaves her brother-in law Patrick (Kathleen) and her best friends, brother and sister- in- law, Edward and Susan Calnan. Mary leaves several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was a daily communicant and devoted to the Sacred Heart, St. Mary’s and Our Lady of the Assumption Communities.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mary’s Visitation on Monday, September 25, 2023 in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be held the following morning, September 26, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Our Lady of Assumption Parish, 17 Grove Street, Lynnfield. Those who wish to meet at the Funeral Home to drive in the procession to the Church, please arrive at 9:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Lynn.
