Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Joseph and Andonia (Avalli) Mondello. He attended Lynn Schools and was a lifelong resident of Lynn. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a corporal during World War II, serving with the 83rd Division in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany.
Prior to his retirement in 1987, Joseph worked for the Lynn Public Schools as a custodian for over 20 years, mostly at the Harrington School. He previously worked at Cushman Bakery. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 291 and Local 1736 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. He was a member of AARP and volunteered at the Life Care Center of the North Shore in Lynn with his wife for 17 years. He was also a longtime communicant of Holy Family Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two children: Joseph C. Mondello and his wife Erin and Joanne F. Croteau and her husband Joseph all of Lynn. He was the grandfather to Joseph C. Mondello, Jr. of Attleboro and the great grandfather of four. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Josephine Marseglia, Frances Candeas, Jackie Cope and Mary Hjelm.
Joseph’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting Hours Wednesday 3-7PM.
