John F. Sketchley, age 83, who loved life so much, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Cis) Burke, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
He was the son of the late Harry and Peg Sketchley and brother of Ruth, also deceased. John was born and raised in Lynn, and graduated from Lynn Classical, class of 1954. He joined the Navy shortly after graduation and proudly served his country for 20 years. And then as a family, we came back and settled in Lynn.
Always so busy, working, puttering, and singing. He was the manager of The Porthole Pub for many years after his Navy retirement. He was a member of the North Shoremen Barber Shoppers’ Singing, which was his favorite hobby.
Along with his beloved wife, John is survived by his children, Terri Anne Dyer, his #1 princess, and her husband George of Peabody, Timothy Sketchley, his clone, and his wife Linda of Lynn, and Todd Sketchley, his youngest son of Lynn who took care of his dad every single day.
Life will never be the same without him. We have so many family memories. Our annual trips to Aruba, summer week in Maine, cookouts, holidays, and grandchildren, and his love of singing. He was Grandad to two amazing grandchildren, Briana Brokvist, his #2 princess, and her husband Eric Brokvist, and Brad Dyer, his “favorite” grandson, and his wife Krista. He was also Great-Grandad to Lilly and Quinn Brokvist who always fill our days with joy. Also, to baby Wesley Dyer, sadly he never had a chance to get to know. He will be in our hearts forever.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s honor to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan St., Ste. B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
