A lifelong resident of Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Helen Tetrault and Michael Brennan. She attended Saint Mary’s High School, Salem Hospital School of Nursing, Emmanuel College, and Northeastern University.
Jean had a multi-faceted career that included long tenures at Salem Hospital on medical-surgical units and the ICU. For the past 27 years, she worked with Maury McGough, M.D., as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. She was an extraordinary caregiver who recently retired after 58 years of service to Salem Hospital and the North Shore Physicians Group.
Through her skill, compassion, and deep dedication to caring for patients and supporting her colleagues, Jean exemplified the very best of her profession. She set a standard of excellence that guided generations of active and aspiring nurses. She was a gifted teacher and willing mentor, generous with her time and counsel, who made a difference in the lives and careers of so many who worked alongside her.
Jean is survived by her children; Katherine Sullivan Metivier and her husband Richard of Danvers, MA, and her son Michael Brennan Sullivan of Scottsdale, AZ. Jean is survived by her siblings Carol Pierce and her husband Edward of Hampton, NH, and Michael Brennan and his wife Susan of Fort Myers, FL. She also leaves three grandsons; Andrew, Luke, and Logan Metivier, and lifelong friend and companion Cherie Boise. Jean was predeceased by her daughter, Julie Ann Sullivan. Jean also leaves behind a close community of friends and neighbors in the Village of Nell’s Pond Community where she cherished her membership in the Garden and Book Clubs.
Family and friends are invited to attend Jean’s Funeral on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 9:30am at the Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street Lynn. Followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. at St. Pius Church in Lynn. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Monday from 4pm-8pm at the Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to the Jean Brennan Sullivan Nursing Education Fund in her honor. The fund will provide educational assistance to Salem Hospital/North Shore Physicians Group nurses looking to further their careers and to employees pursuing a nursing degree.
