Mrs. Barbara M. (Waitt) Curtis, age 82, of Lynn, returned to God early Saturday morning in Salem Hospital surrounded by her loving family following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late William H. Curtis, Jr., with whom she had shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Stoneham, Barbara was the daughter of the late Allen E. and Margaret E. (Harper) Waitt. She was raised in Golden Hills, Saugus and was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Melrose. She was a resident of Lynn for most of her life.
Prior to her retirement, Barbara, together with her husband, was the Owner and President of the Curtis Care Center Veteran’s Home in Lynn. Known as the Family Matriarch, Barbara enjoyed her genealogy and was devoted to her family. She was an advocate for animal rights and also enjoyed writing and the ocean. She was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church and a member of the North Shore Wrestling Connection.
She leaves her children, Paul Curtis of Vacaville, CA, Daniel Curtis and his wife Sandy of Methuen, Andrea Donahue and her husband Richard, Cathie Harris and her husband David, Lisa Curtis and her spouse Paula Lynes and Sharon Curtis and her spouse Debbie Young all of Lynn. She also leaves her beloved friend, Dr. Mike Watkins of CA. She is further survived by 21 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, Anabel. Barbara also leaves her beloved cat, Chyna and was the mother of the late Michael J. Curtis and his wife Ann of Lynn and William H. Curtis III and mother-in-law of the late Jeanette Doucette.
Barbara’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Wednesday at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Chapel at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-7PM.
