Mr. Anthony “Tony Nichols” Nicolopoulos, 90, a lifelong resident of Lynn, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.Born in Lowell, Anthony was the son of the late Theodore and Catherine Nicolopoulos. Tony was the loving companion of many years of Carol Morrissey of Danvers; the beloved brother of the late William, Charles and Peter Nichols, Julie Sarandopolis and Alice Karigianis; and the wonderful and devoted uncle of several nieces and nephews, including Catherine Pisani, Melissa Nichols-Gilbert and Jane Rafael.
Anthony worked as a production clerk for GE Riverworks for 41 years until his retirement, and was elected as a salary representative, for the AFL-CIO Union there. He was very active in local Lynn politics and served as an aide to Mayor McManus. Tony was always willing to help people and would do so any way that he could when called upon. He was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, including as its Athletic Director. He also served as a coach for the annual Harry Agganis Basketball Tournament. He enjoyed bowling and golfing and was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Tony’s loved ones would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at the Memory Loss Unit at Aviv Centers for Living in Peabody and the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers for all of the compassionate care that they provided to him.
Tony’s funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday, May 19th, at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral service on Thursday, May 19th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
