Anna R. (Raftery) Loughlin, 93, of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She is predeceased by her husband Jeremiah "Jerry" Loughlin, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. Both had been long-time communicants of Our Lady of Assumption Church, Lynnfield.
Born in Lynn on August 25, 1930, Anna was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Ellen (O’Brien) Raftery. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Girls High School and Salem State College. A resident of Peabody, who lived in Lynn most of her life, Anna was also a seasonal resident of Naples, FL, where she spent many winters after her retirement in the early 90s.
Anna served as the Assistant Clerk Magistrate for the Trial Court of the Commonwealth of MA at Cambridge Superior Court and Lynn District Court until her retirement. She was also associated with H.O. Zimman, Inc., her first employer and close friends her entire life. She was a former Democratic State Committee Woman serving the 1st Essex Senatorial District. Anna served on the Rules Committee for former President Jimmy Carter at the Democratic National Convention, and was a distinguished member of the electoral college.
Anna was predeceased by her six siblings, Patrick “Joe” Raftery of Lynn, Mary Spates of Braintree, Thomas Raftery of Peabody, Helene Raftery of Lynn, Theresa Elliott of Burlington, and John Raftery of Lynn. She was grateful for having them and all her friends in her life, and for all of their children who doted on her over the past few years, too numerous to mention but they all know who they are.
Anna’s family would also like to thank the staff at the Kaplan House for their kindness to and their care of Anna during her final days.
A Visitation for Anna will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 in the Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn from 9:45 am - 10:45 am.
