Virginia B. Hayden, 102, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 30, 2015. She was born on May 1, 1913 in Pittsylvania County to the late George D. Barbour and Emily (Emma) Jackson Barbour. Mrs. Hayden was married to the late Jack M. Hayden in 1930 and they celebrated their 60th anniversary before his passing in 1994. They had four children, Freda H. Womack, Kyle Davis Hayden, Darryl Wayne Hayden (wife Donna) all of Lynchburg. Their oldest son, Jack Hayden, Jr. died in New York State as a result of a motorcycle accident. Mrs. Hayden is also survived by two granddaughters, Leigh W. Bruffy (husband Mark) and Dr. Dara Lynn Hayden of California; one great-granddaughter, Katie Bruffy-the light of her life! She is also survived by two brothers, F. Donald Barbour of Danville and C. Garland Barbour of Florida. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Kyle Barbour and G.D. Barbour; four sisters, Clara B. Adkins, Shirley B. Rogers of Danville, and Zada B. Matthews and Alice B. Barksdale of Lynchburg. She was the oldest living member of Forest Road United Methodist Church, where she had been a member since the 1930’s. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served on the official board, helped in Bible School among her many church activities. She loved her church and a large American Flag, which she crocheted,hangs in the Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Hayden worked at Craddock Terry Shoe Factory when she came to Lynchburg at the age of 17. She later worked in the Garment Industry at Joan and Jay, where she retired as a “ForeLady”. Mrs. Hayden was a very special and creative lady much loved and appreciated by her family and a host of friends and relatives who helped her celebrate her 100th birthday in 2013. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Forest Road United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Buchanan and Rev. Vernie Barrow officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior starting at 10 am. The Hayden family is very grateful for the excellent and loving care she received from her physician, Dr. Craig Petry, Centra Hospice, Betty DeLara and all of the wonderful people at “Edley Place Home Care” where Mrs. Hayden had resided since October of 2014.
