Selma Regina (Jean) C. Mayberry, 87, of Lynchburg, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Jean was born in Lynchburg on July 21, 1936 to Irennie Joseph Calloway and Nellie McAlister Calloway. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, Neil “Snookie” Calloway, a son, Michael Allen Mayberry, and her husband, Paul Melvin Mayberry, all of Lynchburg. Jean is survived by her daughter Paula Jean and loving son-in-law, Frank Hudson of Bedford and a daughter in-law, Cathy Mayberry of Lynchburg. Her grandchildren, Keith Allen Mayberry (Allison) of Frisco, TX; Jacqueline Hudson Holton (Jeffrey) of Roanoke, VA; Jeanna Mayberry Saunders (Carlton) of Lynchburg; and Ryan Michael Mayberry of Lynchburg. She was extremely proud of her great-grandchildren Wilson, D’Andre, and Ava as well as two special great-grandchildren, Claire and Jenna. She had many special nieces and nephews; Tammie, Tina, Neil Jr., and Sue, who she cherished greatly; she was particularly fond of her great-nieces and nephews as well. Jean was loved by many special friends and neighbors including Ronnie & Mary Mayberry, Louise Calloway, Linda Salmon, and Louise “Deasy” Grady. Jean retired from GE/Ericsson after 40 years and she was a championship bowler with fellow GE coworkers. Jean loved to work in her gardens and take trips with her family to the beach, where they shared many laughs and fond memories. She was a proud and devoted member of the Lynchburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed serving the Lord with weekly visits to local nursing homes and hospitals by singing hymns and leading prayer. Her church family brought her great comfort and joy throughout her life. The family will receive friends and family from 11:00 am – 12:15 pm on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel followed by a funeral service at 12:30pm. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Lynchburg General Hospital for their kindness and support. Memorial contributions can be made to The Lynchburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church in her honor.
