Samuel Edward Hall, Sr., 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital. For sixty-one years, he was the devoted husband of Phyllis Mason Hall.
Born October 14, 1926 in Campbell County, he was the son of the late Samuel Tyler and Frances Dowdy Hall and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Elbert Hall, Hubert Hall, and Robert Hall. He was a retired supervisor with Lynchburg Public Schools with thirty years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hall is survived by two children, Deborah A. Hall (Allen McIntosh) and Samuel E. Hall, Jr. and wife Kimberly, all of Lynchburg; two sisters, Bernice H. Jennings of Danville and Virginia H. Mason of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Jennifer Garraghty and husband Ryan and James Earl Dolan, Jr. and wife Lynda, all of Lynchburg and six great-grandchildren, Austin, Logan, Allan, Parker, Brenleigh, and Karleigh.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. William Burleigh and the Rev. C. Randall Harlow officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Brookneal.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. and other times at the residence.
