Robert Nelson Wood Jr.

Robert “Bobby” Nelson Wood, Jr. 65, of Lynchburg, passed away, Thursday, September 18, 2014, at his residence. He was the husband of Michelle DeMonte. Born May 24, 1949, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Robert Nelson Wood, Sr. and the late Joyce Adams Wood Hight. Robert was a retired, life-long floor sander for Adams Floors/Woods Flooring and More and he was a member of Harvest Baptist Church. In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by one son, Dennis W. Wood; and his step-father, Harvey Hight. Robert is survived by his children Robert Dale Wood of Forest, Michael P. Wood and his girlfriend, Bridgette Carr of Lynchburg, Jennifer L. Wood and her boyfriend James H. Gillispie, Jr. of Evington, David A. Wood and his wife Charlotte of Simpsonville, SC, Ryan L. Wood and his girlfriend, Kayla Mays, Shane A. Wood and his girlfriend Kellie Owen of Lynchburg and Jacob T. Wood of Lynchburg; two siblings, Brenda Brenner and her husband James of Ashburn and Wayne E. Wood and his girlfriend Vivian Jamerson of Madison Heights; step-children, Jessica and Keith Tyree, Sarah Tyree and Beverly DeMonte; ten grandchildren, Dale Cox, Ashley Wood and her boyfriend Ethan Anthony, Nathan and Brice Wood, Michael and Raymond Wood, Kimberly Windsor and her boyfriend Tyler Carter, Hunter Gillispie and Gabriel and Paul Wood; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted, 2 p.m., Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Mark Snowden officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of Jennifer Wood and James Gillispie. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Centra Hospice for their care and support.
