Richard Scott Moon, 61, of Lynchburg went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his residence.
Born on August 2, 1955, in Indianapolis, Ind., he was the son of Delores Clark Moon of Forest and the late Dr. James E. Moon.
Richard was baptized at an early age and was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church. Richard graduated from Brookville High School and attended CVCC. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and loved to travel. He worked 15 years for BWXT and Delta Star. He loved to play the piano and had served as minister of music at Tree of Life for a number of years. He volunteered at the Adult Care Center, PACE and various other places in Lynchburg playing music.
In addition to his mother, he leaves behind his fiancée and devoted caregiver, Deborah Dodson of Forest; two daughters, Heather Moon Pratt and her husband, Jason of Floyd and Katie Moon Guthman and her husband, James of Evington; one son, Morgan Scott Moon of Lynchburg; one sister, Catherine June Powell of Forest; three grandchildren, Cassidy Pratt, Harmony Pratt, and Kyndal Pratt, all of Floyd; a special cousin/friend, Donnie Clark, and a number of other relatives and friends. He touched the hearts of so many along the way.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Thomas Terrace Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Grooms officiating.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Adult Care Center of Central Virginia, P.O. Box 568, Lynchburg, VA 24505.
