Born in Lynchburg, VA, February 18, 1926, she was the widow of Rev. John Gamble and the daughter of the late J. B. Mason and Mary Estelle Daniel Mason. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Iris (Paul) Mattox and her brother, Paul (Eunice) Mason.
After graduating from E. C. Glass High School, she attended Lynchburg College and Randolph Macon Women’s College until she married in 1945. She considered her highest calling in life to be that of wife, mother and homemaker. Her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, and her love of reading and studying the Scriptures, were the anchor of her heart, the guiding compass of her life, and the source of her joyful anticipation and steadfast conviction of eternal life with her Heavenly Father. She was a member of the West Lynchburg Baptist Church, where she worshiped regularly and served faithfully in many capacities.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Brooke of Chattanooga, TN, her son, Johnson “J.” Gamble, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA, who was her attentive and devoted caregiver during her final years of life, 3 grandchildren—Meg (John) Day of Signal Mountain, TN, Joseph Goetz of Chattanooga, TN, and Daniel Goetz of Durham, NC, 4 great-grandchildren—Burl, Fern, Ridge and Lark Day, her sister, Barbara (Pete) Clarkson of Madison Heights, VA, 2 brothers—Jimmy (Maxine) Mason of Roanoke, VA, and Don (Jean) Mason of Brentwood, TN, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Monday, February 7. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM and the service at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jonathan Falwell will be the officiating minister.
