Nellie Carey Blanks

Nellie Carey Blanks, 99, of Lynchburg passed away Tuesday, July 05, 2016, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Raymond Daniel Blanks. Born April 2, 1917, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Carey and the late Etta Childress Carey.

Nellie was a former employee of the Lynchburg Hosiery Mill before retiring as an underwriter for Nationwide Insurance Company. She was also a member of Euclid Christian Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, Nellie was preceded in death by three brothers, Everette Carey, Johnny Carey and Shelton Scott Carey; and three sisters, Effrie C. Leftwich, Maude C. Pillow and Margie C. Woodhouse.

Nellie is survived by her sister Reva C. DeKeyser of Lynchburg and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great-nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
