Born in Lynchburg on October 4, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mattie Williams. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Candler, and her son, Jason Candler.
The middle child of five, Linda had a happy childhood and was very close to her parents, siblings, and extended family. She attended Rustburg High School. After high school she met Ronnie, her husband of 49 years, while working the candy counter at G.C. Murphy. They married in Spokane, Washington after dating for a month.
Linda had several jobs throughout her lifetime, and by her own account, she enjoyed all of them. She was retired from service as a private nanny to Hadley and Harrison, who she loved as her own.
Very much a people person--she never met a stranger. Her family used to say that she could be on an elevator with someone and know their whole life history by the time the elevator stopped. She loved her family fiercely, was a loyal friend, and was the best listener when you needed to talk.
The over-arching theme of Linda’s life, however, was her unashamed love for the Lord. This informed every aspect of her life, publicly and privately. She was actively involved as a church board member, a teacher, and in many other church and community ministries over the course of her life.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Candler, and son, Jason Candler, she is survived by her daughter, Michelle Dixon and her husband, Mike, and four grandchildren: Michael Dixon, Austin Candler, Carson Candler, and Brooke Candler. In addition, she is survived by one brother: Fred Williams and his wife, Barbara; two sisters: Virginia Stepp, Wanda Cantor and her husband, Barry; plus a large extended family and many special friends who were considered family.
Her daughter wishes to thank Centra Hospice for their kind, compassionate care during Linda’s illness, with special appreciation for Kasie, Angie, and Susan.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Friday, June 28 in Spring Hill Cemetery, and a memorial service at 11:00 on Saturday, June 29 at Love & Truth Community Church.
