 Obituario de Joyce Tucker Smith
Joyce Velma Tucker Smith, 80, of Lynchburg passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at her residence after a long illness. She was the wife of Lloyd Smith, Sr. for 61 years. Born on September 10, 1933 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Norman Tucker and Annie Coleman Tucker. Joyce was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. She retired from the Central Virginia Training Center, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Higgins of Oxford, AL. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Debbie Meeks and husband Gene of Madison Heights; her son, Lloyd Alex Smith, Jr. and wife Carrie of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Ricky Smith and wife Tanya, who is in the Air Force and stationed at Canon Air Force Base in New Mexico and Christy Sanchez and husband Josh of Madison Heights; four great grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Meagan Smith, Jason Smith, and Kyle Sanchez; her sister, Doris Teeter and husband Jim of Richmond; her brother, Norman “Buddy” Tucker and wife Shirley of Concord; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank all the staff of Centra Hospice for the wonderful care they provided during Joyce’s illness. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 6 to 7:30 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Interment will follow at Presbyterian Cemetery. For those wishing to make memorial contributions, the family would like you to consider, The Hospice Foundation, The Human Society, or the Alzheimer’s Society.
