John Alvis Jackson, 72, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014 at his residence. He was the husband of Jeanette Hallstein Jackson. Born October 2, 1941 in Nashville, TN, he was the son of the late John Alvis Jackson, Sr. and the late Margaret Moss Jackson Vinson and his step-father, James Vinson and was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his daughters, Ellen Mae Jackson and two sisters, Margaret Ann Burnett and Bertha Nell Dodd. Mr. Jackson was retired from the wood products business and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Jackson is survived by three daughters, Lori Ellen Garner and husband Steve of Wilmington, NC, Janeice Marie Jackson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Betty Jo Holloway and husband Ken of Madisonville, TN; one son, Jeffrey Adam Jackson (Kaylyn Price) of Harrisonburg, VA; two sisters, Mary Lea Bailey of Indianapolis, IN and Martha Elizabeth Crowder of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and his loyal dog, Lucy. John loved Jesus Christ and followed him always. Books on tape and National Public Radio were often his companions on his many travels. He was never happier than when traveling the hills of Tennessee. He loved his family and was an excellent air banjo player. A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Hank Boschen officiating.
