Dorothy Staples Black, 96, of Amherst, died, Thursday, April 04, 2013, at Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Gwyn Dale Black. Born February 12, 1917, at Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late John Washington Staples and the late Kate Jane Wooldridge Staples.
Dorothy was a retired employee for Progress Printing Company and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by three siblings, Francis Bosiger, Ethel Baker and James Staples.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Terry Wayne Black of Rustburg; her daughter-in-law, Diane Black of Madison Heights; one granddaughter, Lindsay Hudson and her husband Chris; one step-grandson, Burt Branham and his wife Megan; two great-grandchildren, Caden Hines and Skylar Hines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 8, 2013, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Wayne Goade officiating.
There will be no scheduled visitation hours at the funeral home.
