Charles Thomas Johns

Charles Thomas Johns, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He’s been reunited with the love of his life who preceded him in death in 2012, Janet B. Johns.

Born on October 6, 1938 in Chicago, he was the son of the late Arthur and Adeline Johns. In addition to his beloved wife, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Donald Johns, Richard Johns and sisters-in-law Arlene and Helen.

He is survived by brothers Art Johns, Allan Johns, sister Arlene Johns-Wirth (Tom); his eight children, Thomas Johns (Nancy), Julie Johns, JoAnn (Mark) Bentley, Janette Johns (Randall Leitner), Jennifer (Ron) Domeracki, Jessica Campbell (Gene Hall), Matthew Johns (Jenny), and Nicholas Johns (Morgan); and grandchildren Rachel, Matthew Jr., Caleb Hills, Veronica, Dylan, Erika Leitner, Tenley and Marley) step-grandchildren: David May, the late Gregory Bentley, Melissa Gray & Krista Bentley; and step great-grandchildren: Kaylee Reese, Bailey Bentley, Emily Gray, Lana Grey, and Nathan Grey.; and uncle and friend to many.

Charles loved singing karaoke, especially at the Moose Lodge, but if given access to a microphone or an audience, would sing anywhere. He had a dry sense of humor which each of his children inherited a bit of. He loved his dogs immensely. Charles would also love to tell his “small-world” stories – and he never ran out of those.

The family would like to thank family members Jessica Campbell, Nick Johns, Caleb Hills, and Gene Hall for their selfless hours taking care of Charles, Jennifer Dean from Westminster at Home for the love and care shown to him; he considered her his 6th daughter, and his best friend, Dick Keller. And a special thank you to Saint Thomas More Church including the monsignor, Patty and others, for offering Charles the Holy Eucharist when he could not attend and all they have done for the family.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church officiated by Monsignor Michael McCarron. For those that can't attend, please join us via livestream by visiting www.stmva.org.
