Mary Kathryn Childress

Mary was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, and granddaughter. She was a very happy person and enjoyed music, writing, coloring, drawing and painting. She also enjoyed playing basketball, bowling and dancing. She was a member of the Special Education Sunday School Class of Lufkin's First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her mother, Ann "BeBe" Childress; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Mark Ferden; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Kim Childress, nieces and nephews, Jason and Sara Vest, Mark Kelly and Jamie Vest, Ryan and Megan Ferden, Lauren Childress and Madison Childress; special friends, Jackie and Michael Liles, Art and Karen Nelson; Judy Winger and "Spidey" Spivey; her dear pets, Sassie and Daisy; and a number of other family members and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Childress; aunts, Helen Aldredge and Martha Courtney; and her grandparents.

Pallbearers will be Jason Vest, Mark Kelly Vest, Ryan Ferden, Alan Courtney, Preston Williford, and Art Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary's Memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904; or to the Volunteer Service Council at Lufkin State Supported Living Center, 6844 US Hwy 69 N, Pollok, Texas 75969.

Services for Mary will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Greg Freijo officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
