James Donald Sikes

Services for James “Jim” Donald Sikes, 86, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Livingston officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Jim was born July 30, 1932 in Forest, Texas, the son of the late Augusta (Latham) and William Henry Sikes. He passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 following a prolonged illness.

Jim was a loving husband, caring and best friend to his sons and “Super Papaw” to his grand and great-grandchildren. Jim served in the United States Navy for four years and spent some time aboard the Air Craft Carrier U.S.S. Shangri-La from 1954 – 1956. Jim was a member of Keltys First Baptist Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, David James; sister, Melba Parker; twin brothers, Leon and Troy; and sister-in-law, Jan Sikes.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Kay; son, Stephen Sikes and special friend Kristie Nau; brother, Bobby Sikes; sister-in-law, JoAnn Sikes; daughter-in-law, Peggy Hershelman; grandchildren, Nicole Sikes, Monica Bazan, John Sikes and wife Leann; Justin Sikes and wife Christin, and Brandon Hershelman; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Creed Sikes, Chris and Gunner Sikes, Brianna, David and Olivia Bazan, and Christian Hershelman.

Pallbearers will be John Sikes, Justin Sikes, David Bazan, David Sikes, Greg Harrison, and Marty Strickland.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
