Helen Marie Havard Johnson, 82, of Lufkin, was born July 15, 1928 in Angelina County, Texas, the daughter of the late Maggie (Burris) and Richard Havard. She passed away Monday, August 30, 2010 at her residence.
Ms. Johnson was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She resided in the Lufkin area all of her life. She was born in Burke and moved to the Pollok community. She enjoyed cooking, singing, working in her yard, being with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. Ms Johnson was a member of O'Quinn Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Jamie Bonner of Lufkin; son, Freddy Johnson of Lufkin; grandchildren, Perry II and Jeanna Henson, Angie Due, Jackie Maddux and Marci Brentham; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Irene Pruitt of Lufkin and Opal Wonzer of Katy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.
Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Becky Reeve; grandson, Richard Maddux in 1973; granddaughter, Kim Maddux in 1984; former husband, Johnny Marcelle Johnson; brothers, Floyd Havard and Preston Havard; and sisters, Minnie Lee Deaton, Gracie McClendon and Olar McClendon.
Pallbearers will be Bret Due, Perry Henson, Josh Henson, Tanner Myers, Cole Brentham and Jerry Bynum.
Honorary pallbearers will be Maddux Dezern, Tucker Ray Bynum, and Cutter Anthony Henson.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Hospice in the Pines for the care given to Ms. Johnson during her final illness.
Services for Ms. Johnson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jeff Robinson and Dr. Dalton Havard officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
