Graveside services for Carrie Elizabeth Warrick, 97, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston with Reverend Stephen Lantis officiating.
Carrie Elizabeth Green was born in Columbia County, Arkansas on October 26, 1918, the fourth child of Margaret Ellen (Price) Green and John Foster Green. She passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at her home.
She attended school in Brister, Arkansas and graduated from Emerson High School. She attended Meadows-Draughon Business College in Shreveport, Louisiana.
During World War II, she worked as a secretary for the Postal Service in Washington, D.C. after the war, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she met and married Postal Inspector, William Ross Warrick in 1949. After the birth of their daughters, she was a loving and hard-working homemaker. She was a life-long reader and instilled a love of reading in her children. She was also an outstanding cook and seamstress. While her girls were young, she was a leader with the San Jacinto Girl Scouts.
In 1978, she returned to secretarial work at Prudential Insurance Co. in Houston. After retiring, she moved to New Boston, Texas, and in 1985, to Lufkin, Texas.
She was a member and past President of the Lufkin Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In Lufkin, she was active in Sunday School classes at First Christian Church and was a member of the Friends of Ellen Trout Zoo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; her sisters, Wilbourn Green and Claudie Betts; and her brother, Hampton Green.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jana and Ken Harrison of Lufkin and Judy and Bill Hawkins of McKinney; grandchildren, Heather (Hawkins) and Matt Richter of McKinney, Michael and Nisha Harrison of Clinton, North Carolina, Barrett and Kate Hawkins of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Scott Harrison of Brooklyn, New York; six great-grandchildren, Emily Hawkins, Tucker Hawkins, Bijou Harrison, Kip Harrison, Peyton Richter, and Finley Richter.
The family wishes to extend their utmost gratitude to Carrie’s faithful, compassionate, and innovative caregivers, Verline Hartman and Evelyn Morton and special thanks, also, to her hairdresser Donna Chance, her physician, Dr. Kyle Krohn, and Hospice in the Pines.
Memorial contributions in Carrie’s memory may be made to the Winnie Berry Pet Adoption Center, 1102 N. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, TX 75901; or to First Christian Church, 1300 S. First Street, Lufkin, TX 75901.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
