Betty Jo (Dempsey) Dempsey McCall

Services for Betty Jo (Dempsey) McCall, 81, of Diboll, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Kenny Hibbs officiating. Eulogies will be offered by Karen Case and Claude Edward Welch. Interment will follow in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery in Diboll.

Mrs. McCall was born December 1, 1935 in Logan, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Carrie (Conley) and Roy Lee Dempsey. She passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 in a local hospital.

Mrs. McCall was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was retired from First Bank & Trust East Texas. She was proud to be a “coal miner’s daughter” from West Virginia. Mrs. McCall was a member of Diboll’s First Baptist Church and worked in the nursey for almost 30 years. She loved her family and enjoyed taking care of others.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James “Jimmy” McCall, Jr.; son, James McCall, III; daughter, Melissa McCall; son, Roy Dempsey McCall; sisters, Dorothy Davis, Shirley Hensley and Mary McCoy; brothers, Crawford Dempsey, Kyle Dempsey and Jimmy Dempsey; close friends, Sissy and Joe Anthony and Marjorie and Claude Edward Welch; extended family, Bessie Furgurson, Angela and James Yakovsky, Karen Case, Gunner Horton, Madison Horton, Presley Yakovsky, Kamryn Case, Hudson Case, Suzanne Langford, Jerri Lynn and James Ledford, Lisa Burkhalter, Betty and Vernon Burkhalter; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCall was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Dempsey, Jr. and wife Georgia; sister, Jewel Meade and husband Fred; brother-in-law, Kenneth Davis; sister-in-law, Garnet Dempsey; and nephew, Mark Dempsey.

Pallbearers will be Joe Anthony, James Simms, Gunner Horton, Todd Horton, James Yakovsky and Claude Edward Welch.

Honorary pallbearers will be J T Hambrick, Joe Goins, and Terry Grantham.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
