Berneice Harvill

Laura Berneice McCullough Harvill was born in Forest, Texas on October 17th, 1935 to Troy E. and Linnie B. (Shumaker) McCullough. She has lived in the Lufkin are since 1944. She passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Lufkin at the age of 88.

Berneice graduated from Lufkin High School and Pineywoods Business College. She worked for Angelina County Lumber Company, American General Life Insurance Company, and retired from Lufkin State Supported Living Center after 21 years of service.

Berneice was a member of Kelty’s Baptist Church for over 70 years. She taught Sunday School in the Beginners, Primary, and Junior Girls classes and served as assistant teacher in the Ladies class. She was very active in the Senior Saints program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, A.J. and Mary McCullough and W.P. and Bennie Shumaker and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her daughter, Melodie McDonald, her church family, and several cousins.

Visitation will be at Gipson Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, followed by a funeral service will be at 6:00 PM with Bro. Gene Elrod officiating. A committal service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 10 AM at Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be R.O. Hall, Sr., Lynn McCullough, Donald McCullough, Rick Maness, Patrick Largent, Walter Stovall, Ronnie Stanberry, Joe Reagan, Jimmy Nunn, and the Deacons of Keltys First Baptist Church.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Keltys First Baptist Church Building Fund or Winnie Berry Humane Society of Angelina County.
