Elizabeth Clemons Welch, treasured wife of G. Harold (Harry) Welch Jr., mother of Kim (David), Toby, Barclay (Kristen), and Bonnie (Gary) and grandmother of Sam, Nell, Christian, Lindsay, and Mallory died at her home in Vermont on Sunday evening, September 27th. 2015, as the Supermoon/Lunar Eclipse was commencing. She was surrounded by the love of her family.
Betsy was born in Hollywood, California, educated at the Day School in New Haven, Connecticut, and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1950.
She was always interested in education, especially for the disadvantaged. While in college, she worked at a New York settlement home and spent a summer in France working at a summer camp for the children of the French railway workers. In New Haven, she was a founder of School Volunteers and worked with others to found ISIS (Inner-city Scholarships for Independent Schools).
Betsy was the Director of Admissions at the Foote School in New Haven for seventeen years where she sought to increase diversity within the student population.
For many years, she and her family lived in Hamden, Connecticut. Ultimately, she became a Vermont resident living with Harry at Peace and Plenty Farm in Ludlow.
She took enormous pleasure in both her flower and vegetable gardens.

Memorial services are planned for Sunday, October 11th at 1:00pm at the Old Parish Church in Weston, Vermont also in New Haven, CT on a date, time, and place to be determined.
