visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday December 20, 2013 at Resthaven Funeral Home. William was born December 27, 1928 in Childress, Texas to Bertram D. Knight and Gertrue E. Wilkinson Knight. He first came to Lubbock from Childress in 1946 and attended Texas Technological College (1946-1950) graduating with a Bachelor of Business in Finance. In 1950 William joined the U.S. Army taking basic training at Camp Polk, Louisiana. He was subsequently promoted to Corporal and assigned to the 45th Infantry Division Finance Office. He faithfully served in the Korean Conflict having been stationed in Japan and Korea and was discharged in October, 1952. Returning to Lubbock, William began his business career at Kuykendall Chevrolet (1952-1955); was promoted to Kuykendall Investments (1955-1963); moved to Lubbock Savings and Loan (1963-1980); and concluded his career at First Federal Savings Bank (1980-1994). William was always active in serving the Lubbock community. He was Past President of both the Retail Merchants Association and the Exchange Club, Past board member of both the Kuykendall Foundation, and the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, member Lubbock Economics Counsel, Texas Tech Red Raider Club, Texas Tech Alumni Association, assisted Boy Scouts of America (BSA) in Finance area, and has been a continual supporter of the Lubbock Children’s Home and Boys Ranch. William and Glyneth both had an active interest in farming and ranching and enjoyed traveling, particularly to Colorado. William joined First Christian Church in 1958 and had been a faithful member ever since. He was, until recently, a regular attendant at the weekly men’s church breakfast. On June 15, 1957 he married the love of his life, Miss Glyneth Armene Armstrong, at the Lubbock landmark home known as Tara. William was preceded in death by his parents, Bertram D. Knight (1977) and Gertrue E. Wilkinson Knight (1983);
nephew, Brent Dee Knight (1961); brother, Joe Tom Knight (2003); William & Glyneth’s family poodle, Elizabeth
Antoinette (Toni) (1997), his loving wife, Glyneth Armene Armstrong Knight (2012); and a local cousin, Dr. Leslie R.
Ansley (2013). William is survived by his sister-in-law, Lois O. Knight; niece, Beverly L. Schifani (Joseph G. Schifani); great-niece, Faith C. Schifani; nephew, Brian D. Knight (family dog, Delaney); cousins including Frances Ansley, Dwayne Tidwell (Elizabeth Jackson Tidwell), Bruce Ansley, Leslie Ansley (family poodle, Cleo Pawtra), Dr. Justin Tidwell (Julie Hartman Tidwell), Tiffany Tidwell Pett (Mark Pett); plus families of these and numerous other cousins. The family wishes to thank William’s home caregivers Ramona, Melba, Barbara and Elena as well as his doctors, nurses and the staff at Lubbock Heart Hospital, Covenant LTAC Hospital, Crown Point and Hospitality House for their excellent care.
