Dean was born in Covina, California on January 1, 1933. He and his family moved to Plains, Texas where he graduated from Plains High School in 1950. He received a B.S. in chemical engineering from Texas Tech in 1955. He was commissioned in the USAF in 1955 and served in the Air Force from 1955-1981. He married Elsie Carpenter Light in Plains on November 25, 1954. During his years in the Air Force he served in both Korea and in Vietnam, and raised their children.
Dean was preceded in death by Elsie May Light and Willford D. Light, his parents; his sister, Patty Light Palmer; and his sons, Ronald Douglas Light and David Brian Light. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Elsie Carpenter Light; his daughter and son-in-law Dana and Justin Steinhauer of Cedar Park, Texas; two granddaughters, Stephanie of Cedar Park and Sarah of San Antonio; and his brother, Charles Light of Bangkok, Thailand. He also left several nieces and nephews who were very dear to him. Dean was a member of the American Legion, National Rifle Association, DOD, Explosive Disposal Association, and a member of Lakeridge UMC from 1984 to present.
