Robert "Bob" Newton

Bob was born in Ralls Texas on July 26, 1929 to Elizabeth and Charles Newton. Along with his parents

and older brother Charles Jr., Bob moved to Olton, Texas where he started school. At the age of 10 the

family moved to Brownwood, Texas in 1939, where Bob graduated from High School and attended John

Tarleton College studying Engineering for a year before enrolling at Texas Tech in 1947 to study Petroleum Engineering. In 1948, he volunteered for 1 year of active service in the Navy and 6 years of

reserve duty. Returning to Texas Tech in 1949, he completed his BS degree in Petroleum Engineering at

the age of 22. He accepted a job with Humble Oil, which later became Exxon, and in 1952 married Chalones Matthews from Anton Texas. In 1955, they moved to Houston where Bob began working in the Humble Research Center. After Humble became Exxon in 1972, Bob began working in Exxon's Worldwide Operations where he traveled to 23 countries. After 38 years at Humble and Exxon, Bob retired at the age of 60 and they moved to Lubbock. Two years later in 1991, Chalones passed away. In February of 1992, Robert met and married Billie Morris of Lubbock Texas and joined the two families.

Throughout Bobs life he was always active in church. He served as a deacon at Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston Texas for 31 years. After moving to Lubbock he was an active member of First Baptist Church and their Sanctuary choir.

During retirement he stayed busy volunteering at the University Medical Center, gardening, working with stain glass and traveling with his beloved wife Billie.

Bob is survived by his wife of 30 years Billie Newton; his son Mark Newton and wife Erna Grasz of Livermore California; his daughter Karen Newton of Dallas Texas; stepson Ray Morris and his wife Roxann of Shallowater Texas; stepson Lance Morris and his wife Stephanie of Austin Texas and seven step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Carillon house and UMC Hospice for the loving care shown to our husband and father during the later years of his life.

The family invites you to celebrate Bob's life with a visitation being held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Resthaven Funeral Home from 5pm-7pm. A Memorial service to honors Bob's life will follow on Friday, October 21, 2022 at First Baptist Church.
