Richard E. Jones was born August 14,1930 in Detroit, MI. and died January 23, 2022 in Lubbock, TX. Richard was born to Richard J. and Dorothy Winnifred (Loney) Jones. The family moved to Oklahoma City when Richard was 12 years old. He attended OKC schools, graduating from NW Classen High School in 1948, where he excelled as a wrestler. It was during his high school days that he began his lifelong passion for motorcycles. Whether racing in mud runs, working on them, or just riding full throttle, cycles became a big part of his life.
He married Frances Ann Brink on July 29,1950 in Oklahoma City. They had three children: Dick(ie), Debby, and Beth. The family moved to Lubbock in 1962. It was after the move that Richard began seriously exploring another passion, church ministry. He was a devoted minister in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for decades, touching lives throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. He was a prayer warrior long before that term was coined. His prayers were legendary. His ministry was an inspiration to many, as he focused on revealing a living Christ to those who crossed his path. Richard worked for PPG in OKC and Lubbock before becoming a pressman at the Avalanche Journal in the late 1960’s. He married Joyce Simpson on November 5, 1993. He retired from the newspaper in 1995.
He was preceded in death by Richard and Winnifred (parents), Kathryn Ann Precure (sister), Robert Carless Jones (brother), and Joyce Jones (wife), as well as his brother-in-laws George Thomas and Steve Swint and son-in-law Jack Worley.
He is survived by his children and step children: Dick (Debbie) Jones, Debby (Larry) Stewart, Beth (Tom) Brown, Marla (Eric) Williams, and Sheri Lusk. He was Papacita to his grandchildren Ricky (Mel) Jones, Travis (Emily) Jones, Matt (Afton) Jones, Richelle (Steve) Cannon, Ryann (Tim) Litel, Daniel Woods, Alisa (Chris) Schroeder, Amy (Brenton) Onofre, Jason (Kallie) Paine, as well as to his step-grandchildren Merilee and Katie Williams, Eric Lusk, Amanda Schissler and Chris Paine and his 23 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-laws Denny (Brenda) Thomas, Jerald (Kay) Thomas, Bob Precure and his sister-in-law Teresa Swint. He is survived by a host of friends and family, especially his special friend Tara Allen, and his faithful companion, his dog Sallie.
