Orby W. Moore

Orby Wayne Moore went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. Orby was born on June 6, 1941 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Orby and Sylvia Moore. He graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1959. He attended West Texas University and then entered the US Army where he served from 1960 to 1963 during the Vietnam War. He met the love of his life Gay Julia Moore and they were married in May 1968 and spent 53 wonderful years together. After his military service he took a job with Rip Griffin Oil to which he worked for 36 years until he retired in 2005. Orby and Gay had five children: David Schulz, Cozette Moyers, Susan Stephenson, Norman Moore and Joanna Cunningham.

Orby loved being with his family, working in his barn and spending time at the lake. He loved spending time at various family events especially holidays, birthdays and family reunions. He loved summer vacation and leading the family around the country on wonderful adventures to various destinations including Sea World, Fiesta Texas and Disney World.

Orby was a faithful lifelong member of the church of Christ and attended various congregations including South Plains in Lubbock, Texas and 12th Street Church of Christ in Shallowater, Texas. He was a faithful Christian whose entire life was a shining expression of love, service and generosity. Known to everyone by his gentle spirit and sweet smile, he was loved and appreciated by everyone who knew him and especially his grandchildren. Orby leaves a legacy of love and joy to everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his love, kindness and strength especially displayed in some of the more demanding times of his illness.

Orby is survived by his wife, Gay Moore of Shallowater; one brother, Richard Moore and wife Delle of Dimmitt; his son, David Schulz and wife Chrissy of Lubbock; his daughter, Cozette Moyers and husband Randy of Shallowater; his daughter Susan Stephenson and Ricky of Lubbock; his son Norman Moore and wife Marchelle of Shallowater; his daughter Joanna Cunningham and husband Michael of Shallowater; 24 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Delpha Moore, his nephew, Roger Moore, his sister Linda Adams, and his grandson, Landon Moyers.

A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas on Friday, November 29th from 6:30 to 8pm. A Funeral service will be held at 12th Street Church of Christ in Shallowater, Texas on Saturday, November 30th at 10:00.
