Margaret Ingraham

Margaret (Barrier) Ingraham passed away in the early hours of February 16, surrounded by loving family and her devoted caregiver. Margaret was born September 12, 1932 to Clinton and Stella Barrier. While the death of her father when she was 10 was always a source of grief, her mother did everything possible to provide a happy and stable childhood for Margaret and her older brother, Bruce.

Stella sewed handmade skating costumes for Margaret to wear at the family-owned and Lubbock’s first skating rink, located near Mackenzie Park.

Margaret followed in her mother’s footsteps and was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Lubbock High School.

Margaret and her second husband, Arnie Ingraham, raised three daughters, who excelled in their own particular passions, whether it was school, dance, athletics, choir or drama. The family was very active in First Christian Church, Margaret serving as a deacon and participating in the vocal and handbell choirs. Margaret also served on the board of the Lubbock libraries.

After graduating with high honors with her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech, Margaret taught business classes at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, receiving the outstanding faculty member award. Even in retirement, one of her greatest pleasures was to hear from her students who were grateful for her instruction.

In their retirement years, Margaret and Arnie enjoyed doting on their granddaughter, Jennifer (Robertson) Griffin, adopting their beloved fur babies, and seeing the world in their many travels and cruises. Arnie’s prolonged illness and his death in 2006 took the sunshine out of her life and when their youngest daughter, Becki Ingraham, died in June 2017, Margaret began her final decline.

Margaret’s remaining family will be forever grateful to her caregiver, Linda Mojica and her husband BJ, for remaining steadfast in their care of Margaret for the last year of her life.

Margaret leaves behind two daughters, Diana Hughes of Independence, MO and Vicki Robertson of Tyler, TX, grandchildren Jennifer Griffin and Ryan Robertson and great grandchildren Hannah Griffin and Reagan and Chael Robertson.

The memorial celebrating Margaret’s life will be Saturday, March 24, 2 pm at First Christian Church, Lubbock, Texas. Memorial gifts to honor Margaret may be given to First Christian Church.
