Lucille Jane Kveton, 93, passed away on June 8, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lucille was born on December 13, 1930, in Penelope Hill, Texas to William and Albina (Krenek) Matus. She was the youngest of four children. She graduated from Abbott High School in 1949. After graduating, Lucille moved to Lubbock, Texas to live with her Uncle John and Aunt Annie Krenek. While living with Uncle John and Aunt Annie, she attended Draughon’s School of Business. She was employed by Martin’s Department store for a short time before meeting George Kveton. George and Lucille were married on March 27, 1951. They moved to George’s farm just off Highway 62/83 between Idalou and Lorenzo. In 1992, they moved to Lubbock. Lucille moved to Los Lunas, New Mexico in 2016 and to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2022.
In addition to being a homemaker and helping George during harvest time, Lucille spent 35 years as a Pink Lady volunteer, at St. Mary’s and Covenant Hospitals. Lucille was a member of the Women’s club and the bereavement committee at Christ the King Church during her time in Lubbock. Lucille was also a member of the 9 Patch Quilter’s Club. She made many beautiful quilts in all sizes from throws to king size and everything in between. She also enjoyed exercising and often said it contributed to her longevity. In recent years Lucille spent time playing Bingo, Nickles, 42, 84, and Mexican Train.
Lucille was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Willie and Ben, sister Helen, husband George and son George Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Madry ,husband, Mike Madry, and grandson Greg Madry all of Los Lunas, New Mexico and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Kveton of Petersburg, Texas.
