Judith Ann (Troy) Pike was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 9, 1942. Her parents, James and Sybil Troy, raised five daughters and a niece and nephew or two. Judie married Vernon Pike on February 24, 1962 after a whirlwind romance. They raised their two children, Ivy Pike and Troy Pike, in Phoenix Arizona. Judie and Vern moved to Lubbock TX in 1977. This was a happy move that brought them closer to family.
Growing up in a household with five sisters, (Carolyn Sturdivant, Marilyn Crawford, Daphren Stewart, and Kay Adair) family meant the world to her. As young children the family lived in Arkansas surrounded by loads of cousins. As teenagers, the two youngest daughters, Judie and Kay would fill the family home with their friends including Truitt Adair. Sybil, their mom, had a more-the-merrier philosophy to cooking and would feed the hungry teenagers. As the sisters married, the family expanded to include new beloved brothers Ray Sturdivant, Lawrence Crawford, Bill Stewart, Vern and Truitt.
Norma Pike, her daughter in law, was a cherished addition to the family as was her son in law, Geoff Reeves. Her grandchildren, Matthew Pike, Lindsay Pike, Cassidy Reeves, and her great grandchildren Draven Valdez and Killian Troy Pike were the light of her life. She was a very special grandmother with a gift for adapting her grandparenting skills to her grandchildren’s age; she was as great at being their grandparent when they were five as when they were twenty five. She nurtured laughter and always offered a warm embrace. Ultimately, she opened her heart of gold to everyone she met and would gladly tuck them under her loving wings.
In addition to family and grandchildren, Judie loved to travel and play games. Some of Judie’s fondest memories were of traveling across Europe and the Mediterranean isles with Vern. She also treasured her trip to South Africa to go on a safari with her son-in-law Geoff Reeves and his mother Vivian Reeves. Time spent playing card games brought laughter and a treasure trove of dear friends. No one loved hand and foot as much as Judie! She also loved to take pictures and her photo album is filled with smiling faces.
After a long struggle with her heart, Judie died peacefully on October 14, 2024.
Judie never met a stranger, we are certain this will serve her well in heaven.
A memorial service will be held on Friday October 18 at 2:00 pm at Monterey Church of Christ, 6111 82nd, Lubbock, TX.
