He was born on September 11, 1925, to George Edwin Ruff and Cecile Augusta Vititow Ruff in Mobeetie, Texas. He graduated from Shamrock High School in 1943, as Valedictorian of his class.
Joe served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946, as an Aviation Radioman, and as an Aircrewman. Joe was presented with an Air Medal and a gold star for meritorious achievements. After leaving the Navy, he attended Court Reporting School, graduating in 1949. He was a court reporter for several judges both in Lubbock and Denton until he retired in January of 1988.
Joe was a faithful Christian and a wonderful spiritual leader for his family. He was humble and kind, setting a shining example for his children and grandchildren to follow.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Helen Earlene Ruff. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Cathy and Dane Hendrick of Lubbock; Jayme and Mike Vaughan of Georgetown: and Rita and Paul Papst of Lubbock. He had four Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Grandchild.
Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, at 5:00p.m. Services will be on Saturday,
Dec. 17 at 1:00 p.m.at Resthaven, with a graveside service to follow.
