Janette Galyon Holder passed away April 2, 2012 at age 87. She was born November 14, 1924 to parents Marion Harmon Galyon and Lydia Mae White Galyon in Bells, TX. She was raised primarily in Lubbock County and graduated from Lubbock High School and Draughan’s Business School.
In 1945, she married Chester H. Holder in Lubbock. Together they owned and operated Spic & Span Drycleaners for over 30 years before retiring. Janette returned to work a few years later to help her son as he began his drycleaning career with Holder’s Cleaners. Janette served the public for 61 years as a seamstress and was known throughout the city for her expert alterations.
Janette was a Christian and a charter member of Monterey Baptist Church where she taught Training Union to junior high students for many years. She was a member of the choir and the WMU.
Janette and Chester enjoyed square dancing and she loved to plan and give parties – especially those with a theme. Janette spent countless hours with friends and family at the domino table, laughing as much as playing. For more than 25 years Janette led the planning of the annual Galyon Family Reunion which was the highlight of her year.
Janette and Chester owned an Airstream travel trailer and were active members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club. They were married 60 years before Chester preceded her in death in 2005. Janette is survived by her children and their spouses, Kay and Douglas Sanford, Felicia and Randy Gordon and Hal and Sharon Holder, all of Lubbock. A daughter, Jorita Gay, preceded her in death in 1956. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rion Sanford and wife Cheryl and their sons Mac and Scott; Somer Sanford Jaynes and husband Jeff and their children Chandler, Nikki, and Charlee Kay; Lance Gordon; and Josh Holder and wife Angie and their son Grayson. Janette was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother and is survived by one brother, Truman Galyon of Edmond, Oklahoma.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 3rd from 5:30 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial services will be held in the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 4th at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Chris Riley, associate pastor at Monterey Baptist Church, officiating. Private burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
