Services for Hazel Fern Clifford Giles, 92, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Redbud Baptist Church with Pastor Shon Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.
She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 30, 2013.
Hazel was born September 18, 1920 in Knowles, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Clifford and Ella Street Clifford. She graduated from Forgan (Oklahoma) High School in 1938 and attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, Oklahoma. She married Joseph Bruce Giles on August 6, 1940, in Fieldton, Texas. He was a Baptist minister who in his career pastored several churches, including Flint Avenue Baptist and Westmoreland Baptist in Lubbock. He preceded her in death in 2002. In addition to her role as a minister's wife, Hazel worked as a substitute teacher for the Lubbock ISD in the early 1960s, primarily at Monterey High School. From 1965 to 1985 she was the reference room librarian at the School of Architecture of Texas Tech University. She also did volunteer work at University Medical Center.
Survivors include three sons: Clifford (and spouse Joyce) of Albuquerque, N.M., William (and spouse Janice) of Fulshear, Texas, and Gary (and spouse Laura) of Amarillo; a daughter: Karen (and spouse Bob) Harbin of Gainesville, Texas; a brother: Sylvester Clifford of Vermillion, S.D.; ten grandchildren (Jody, Kendal, Kimberly, Wendy, Shannon, Bobby, Jerry, Jenne, Leslie, and Reagan); and fifteen great-grandchildren (Eric, Daniel, Michaela, Gabriel, Parker, Tyler, Corbin, Derek, Dusty, Tommy, Jaren, Mikaylee, Avery, Alex, and Isabella).
The family suggests memorials to Redbud Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday April 4, at the funeral home
