Frances Lucile Moss, 93, entered into eternal life with loving family by her side on Sunday, September 25, 2022. Join us to celebrate a life well lived Wednesday, October 5th at 10 a.m. in the Resthaven Chapel. Mr. Josh Stephens will be the officiant.
Frances was born November 6, 1928, to H.H. and Willie Schweitzer in Matador, TX. She was raised with her two older brothers, Houston and Bert, who she adored. In May, a week prior to high school graduation from Matador High, she was at Bob’s Oil Well where she and a stranger “caught each other’s eye.” A few weeks later while sashaying in her new two-piece bathing suit at the Roaring Springs Pool, she met this handsome stranger who was the lifeguard at the pool. That fall, August 25, 1946, she married that man, the love of her life, James.
James and Frances lived for a few years in Roaring Springs where they birthed their two sons, Randy and Ricky. Her father-in-law invented the revolutionary Moss Lint Cleaner and the young couple moved with the Moss family for a brief time to Amite, LA to produce the first prototype and then back to Lubbock, TX to build the family business. The Moss family purchased the Red Lake Ranch in 1959, located in Motley and Dickens counties where they created the memories that Frances treasured the most.
Frances excelled as a homemaker to support her family and loved to create beauty in all that she touched including her favorite pastimes of sewing and cooking. Her passion was to pass the legacy of family and the history of Motley County to her children and loved ones. She enjoyed the family ranch, Texas Tech sports, traveling, golf, camping and mostly being with her husband and family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and The Heritage Study Club.
She is survived by her son, Randy (Marnell); grandchildren, Keri (Dillar), David, and Johnny (Allison) Moss, and their three children, Max, Mason, and Myles; her sister in spirit, Freda Lawson; and many other relatives and friends. Frances is preceded in death by her husband, James, and her son, Ricky.
Frances will be laid to rest privately, next to her loving husband in the Mausoleum at Resthaven.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Tyanya and the staff at Fountain Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care, the Hospice of Lubbock team, and the team of Dr. Rodney Franklin for their loving and compassionate care for Frances.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the East Mound Cemetery Association PO Box 214 Matador, TX 79244 or charity of your choice.
