The second child of Melvin and Lillie (Watson) Williams, Don began this life Jan. 30, 1933, in Howland, Texas. He grew up in Paris, Texas, and graduated in 1950 from Powderly High School, where he lettered in basketball. Two years later Johnnie Marie Hoover became his bride; they were happily married for 61 years, moving to Lubbock in 1955.
Don served in the U.S. Army for several years and later worked for Borden Dairy, Hostess Cakes and other food-distribution and food-broker companies.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie; son, Michael Don Williams, and wife, Joyce, of Washington Township, Mich.; daughter, Diana Kaye Williams Palmer, of Durham, N.C.; grandchildren Eric Williams of New Haven, Mich., Jennifer Hannah Elias of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Sean and Robin Palmer of Durham, N.C.; and brother, Larry Williams, and wife, Ann, of Paris, Texas. Don is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Emma and Sofia Elias of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Williams, and three brothers: Melvin Williams Jr., Billy Wayne Williams and James Williams.
