Don met Patsy Butler in Lubbock Texas and were married on November 25th 1955. They had one son, Cary Lynn King.
At the age of 15, during his sophomore year in high school, he left school to help supplement his family’s income by driving a meat delivery truck.
Later he began apprentice level employment with a local two-way radio business. Don started out doing manual labor and installation, then he self taught himself in the repair of radio communication and television camera equipment.
Don’s inquisitive mind and his natural aptitude and understanding of electronics and other engineering skills, eventually lead him to the position of Chief Engineer of a major local television station. A position he held for 25 years. Upon retirement the engineering wing at that station was named in honor of him.
Even in his retirement he never lost the desire to understand how things worked. His knowledge of computers was constantly in demand by family, former co-workers and friends
Don is survived by his son Cary and wife Debra, 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Courtney & Will Douglas, Josh & Shaina King of Fort Worth, and Hillary & John Killion of Haslet. He had 4 great-grandhildren, Olivia & Landry Killion, Charlotte Douglas and Odin King.
