Connie Beck passed peacefully in her sleep Monday, February 6th, 2017. Services for Connie will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 17th, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1706 Slide Rd. in Lubbock, with Pastor Jeff Vayda officiating.
Constance Carolyn Krog, the first of 2 daughters born to Carl E. and Frankie Mae (Lyon) Krog, made her debut on Monday, July 10, 1933 in Ft Worth, Texas. Connie attended Fort Worth public schools, where she played clarinet and was a 1951 Honor Graduate of R.L. Paschal High School. Connie attended The University of Texas at Austin and then was a nursing student at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she met George P. Beck, Jr.
Connie and George married December 22, 1953 in Ft Worth. After moving to Lubbock in 1964, Connie was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Tech with bachelor’s degrees in both Biology and Chemistry, later earning her Master of Science degree in Microbiology. Connie taught graduate level Microbiology courses at Texas Tech, worked as a lab technician at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, managed a doctor’s office, and owned/operated a travel agency.
Connie marveled at nature, had an unrivaled appreciation for scientific breakthroughs and advancements, played the piano, supported Special Olympics, was a patron of the arts, enjoyed cooking, sewing, classic movies, fine dining, performing scientific experiments, travelling the world, and occasionally attempted to sing. Connie had a special affinity for crème brulee, cherry cordials, and never met a chocolate that she didn't like. Her favorite flowers were Orchids and especially red Roses. Connie was a cancer survivor, a lifelong animal lover, and a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Connie was at her happiest when in the company of her grandchildren.
Connie was predeceased by her parents and by her husband of 57 years, Dr. George P Beck, Jr. Connie is survived by her children: Carla Manny and her husband, Dr. Ted Manny, Sr. of Greensboro, N.C.; George Beck, III of Dallas; Dr. Howard Beck and his wife, Cassandra, of Lubbock; grandchildren: Dr. Ted Manny Jr. and his wife, Dr. Julia Manny, of Greensboro, N.C.; Mark Manny of Dallas; Kristen Beck and her fiancée, Matt Hall, of Lubbock; Andrew Beck and his wife, Haley, of Lubbock; Cadet 2nd Class Jonathan Beck of Colorado Springs, CO.; Cade Hogan of Lubbock, and Kami Hogan of Stillwater, OK.; great-grandsons Bergen Manny and Benjamin Manny, both of Greensboro, N.C; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Kent Henning of Ft. Worth; numerous nieces and nephews, her Church family, fellow residents of Raider Ranch, fellow educators, the science community, and her doting Schnauzer, constant companion, and most trusted confidante, Molly.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Connie's memory to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Meals on Wheels, The Humane Society, Special Olympics, American Cancer Society, or a favorite charity.
