With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Billie Josephine Snyder on November 17, 2024, at the age of 84. Billie was born in Lubbock, Texas, on January 13, 1940, to Benjamin W. Altman and Hazel U. Altman. She met the love of her life, James A. Snyder, and they were married on June 10, 1958. Together, they shared nearly 60 years of love and companionship before James’s passing.
Billie was the eldest of six children, with four brothers and one sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and a brother. She is survived by her three daughters, Darlene Rankin and husband Jerry of Georgetown, TX; Gina Holden and husband Terry of Weir, TX; and Shelly Snyder of Lubbock, TX.
Billie was the proud grandmother of Shane Roberts and wife Tiffany, Christopher Ofe and wife Rosi, Mallory Roberts, Nathan Ofe and wife Caroline, Malindsey Weaver and husband Brent, and Michelle Salinas and husband Luis. Her great-grandchildren, Jesse, David, Jayden, Toni, Elyjah, Madison, Mya, Tinley, Michael, Adley, Dylan, James, Mercy, and Grace, brought her great joy, and she adored each of them.
A true farm girl, Billie loved gardening, cooking, painting, and spending time outdoors. She was known for her extraordinary cooking and selfless spirit, always serving others whether around her family table or through her church community. Her nurturing heart touched the lives of many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as she helped raise and care for numerous loved ones.
Billie was a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church in Lubbock, where she found strength and peace. Her love for others, her kindness, and her quiet faith were a reflection of the deep love she carried for her family, her friends, and her church family.
Billie also had a special place in her heart for the wide-open spaces and sweeping winds of West Texas. She embraced life with joy, always finding beauty in the land and in the simple moments that made her smile.
Her passing leaves a deep void, but her legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A celebration of Billie’s life will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock, TX. The visitation for Billie will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will occur Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Resthaven Funeral Home & Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Beyond Faith Hospice, whose compassionate care made a difference during Billie’s final days.
