Melba Beatrice Drachenberg, (Bea), age 85 of Lubbock, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2023. A graveside service, open to all who wish to attend, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. The service will be led by Mark McMillan. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7.
Bea was born on February 26, 1938 in Lubbock, Texas, to Troy and Pearl McCollum. She graduated from Frenship High School. She married Richard Drachenberg on October 6, 1956. She was a homemaker for many years. During those years she was very active in the First Baptist Church of Smyer serving as Sunday School teacher and GA leader. She was a member and served as President for the Xi Theta Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Bea worked for the Smyer, Union and Bledsoe School Districts as business manager. She also worked as secretary for the Region 17 Education Service Center where she retired. Among other talents, Bea was a very talented seamstress. She loved the San Antonio Spurs and enjoyed playing dominoes and bunco.
She is survived by her son, Richard Drachenberg and wife Becky of Lubbock, two daughters, Rhonda Tubb and husband Johnny of Lubbock, Jamie King and husband Neal of Dean, 6 grandchildren, Amy Swan and husband Joel of Mason, Kali Hepker and husband Erik of Littleton, Co, Kelsey Tubb of Lubbock, Justin Tubb and wife Jordan of New Home, Joe Curtis King and Allen King of Dean and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, sister, Betty Andrews and brother-in-law, Earl Andrews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the South Plains Food Bank.
