Richard Lee Scherer

Rich was born in Ulysses, NE to Carl and Malinda Scherer on June 26, 1944. Rich grew up in rural Nebraska, learning to farm with his family, graduated from Seward High School, and attended various schools studying electronics, small engine repair, and welding. He enlisted in the Army from 1969 – 1972 and eventually was employed by the United States Postal Service where he provided 31 years of service before retiring in 2001.

Rich and Jean retired to Estes Park, CO where they lived for several years until moving to Loveland, CO to be closer to family. They loved the mountains and spent a great deal of their time outside enjoying the beauty of Colorado. During retirement, Rich enjoyed woodworking and spent a lot of time creating kitchen sets, saddle racks, and other meaningful gifts for his children & grandchildren.

Rich was a warm and quiet man filled with pride for his wife and children, always placing their needs above his own. His sense of humor, warm smile, and quiet nature attracted people to him. He always led his life following his Savior Jesus Christ and held his faith very close to his heart.

He is preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Jean Scherer and brother, Donald Scherer. He is survived by his children, Jeff (Kimberly) Scherer of Palmetto, FL and Jennifer (Matthew) Rise of Windsor, CO, his four grandchildren, Kiley & Kayla Scherer and Samuel & Ella Rise, brother Wesley (Linda) Scherer of Shell Knob, MO, Delores (Robert) Grey of Seward, NE, and Jeannie (Roger) Gearhart of Camp Verde, AZ. The family asks that donations be sent to Redeemer Lutheran Church in his honor in-lieu-of flowers.

There will be a celebration of life for Rich held on May 22, 2024, at 1:00 pm MST at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, CO.
