Jerry Doherty, 83, passed peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He served with honor as a Marine Capitan and was awarded the Silver Star for bravery during his two tours in Vietnam. After completing his service, he was honorably discharged and carried with him an embodiment of strength and resilience.
For nearly 50 years, he was a dedicated member of his community, building a business and a legacy that touched many lives. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita, and his children, Casey (Eric), Joe, and Dan (Julianne) along with grandchildren Danielle, Avery, Addison, Isabelle, Sullivan, and Declan. With his passing, he joins his son, Jerry, who left us in 2020. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, loyalty, and his love for his family and friends.
His granddaughter, Addison, wrote about Jerry in her recent Veteran’s Day presentation about him. “This veteran is special to me because: This is my grandpa. I have looked up to him since I was able to open my eyes. Every single day I hope to make him proud, even though there is nothing I can do that compares to the sacrifices and love he has shown to not only my family but to this country. He is the strongest and bravest man I know. He has been through many battles in life, but no matter what, he comes out even stronger than before. I always tell him that every goal I score is a goal for him. He has always been a reason for me and my family to shoot for our goals and dreams, and in my case, literally shoot for my goals. I would not be on a journey to play college soccer without his support and my aspirations to be as strong as him. I don’t go a single day without appreciating the life I have been given, which is a result of my grandpa’s bravery and commitment to my family and our country. Thank you, Grandpa, for everything and more. I love you.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 21 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Berthoud Brewing Company, 1480 Cascade Ave, in Loveland.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
Forever in our hearts.
