JAMES, WILLIE MCWANE WINCHESTER, 98, died January 20, 2018, at Westminster Health Care Centre, Louisville. She was born in Lenoir City, Tennessee and grew up in the Crescent Hill section of Louisville. She was a graduate of Louisville Girls High School and Spencerian Business College.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William D. and Sophrano Elizabeth Winchester; stepmother Gertrude Pear Winchester; sister, Virgie Winchester Schwab; and husband, Dr. William E. James who was a former president of Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro, and a retired United Methodist minister.
Mrs. James will be remembered by many as a faithful servant who made a difference in many lives and in United Methodist churches in both Louisville and western Kentucky where her husband was pastor. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Louisville.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwyneth James (John) Morton, Louisville; son, William W. (Phyllis) James, Winchester, KY; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018, in the sanctuary of St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2000 Douglass Blvd, Louisville. Arch L. Heady at Resthaven is in charge of arrangements. Private interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
