He was born on June 11, 1974 in Tompkinsville, KY the son of John W. and Elizabeth (Toot) Brantley. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Brantley; a sister, Sarah Brantley; grandparents, Lee Ottley, Gertie Collins, Thomas Lucas and Delores Carter.
Billy is survived by his father, John W. Collins (Phyllis); brothers, John Thomas "Tom" Collins (Joy), Nick Brantley; daughter, Vivian Elise Collins; two nieces; a nephew; many aunts, uncles, cousins and a lot of friends.
Billy was sort of a wanderer. He moved around to different places until he found a spot he could settle and call home. He did a lot of work helping people in recovery. He worked for the Indiana Center for Recovery for the past four years. He started there as a client advancing as a cook, then progressed into managing sober living houses. He was a great friend and support to so many people in the Bloomington community trying to live a sober life. Many of the people he met started as friends that became family.
He loved to cook, smoke cigars, fish, camp and kayak. He had an obsession with cologne, always wanting to be the best smelling guy in the room. His laugh was contagious and will be missed.
A gathering to Celebrate Billy's Life will be held from 1-5 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206.
Donations may be made to New Leaf New Life, where he was a volunteer.
