Thomas "Tom" O. Myers

Thomas “Tom” Onan Myers, 92, of Louisville, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022. He was born on June 12, 1930 to the late Dallas and Virginia Hunter Myers. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed boating, camping, and traveling with his family and beloved wife of 53 years, Shirley.

Tom served in the US Army as a Private 1st Class during the Korean War era. His 1st deployment was in 1947 and his service time was spent in Japan and Korea. He also boxed competitively while in the military.

He was a photo engraver by trade, and retired in 1990 after a 34-year career at MacKay Engraving, followed by 32 years of retirement.

As a young man Tom loved all sports and being active. He spent time as a lifeguard and especially loved diving. Later, he started drawing portraits and landscapes as a hobby. As his skills developed over the years, he began to make pieces for family members and friends that are still proudly displayed today.

Tom was a very religious and devout member of St. Rita Catholic Church. While raising his family, they all prayed the rosary regularly and he continued to do so until his passing. He was also active in the St. Rita Booster Club, coaching both football and track and field. He was also a member of the local Knights of Columbus and the VFW post 8639. Most recently, he is an Honor Flight Bluegrass 2019 Alumni.

His wife, Shirley Ann Myers, and grandson, Brian Steven Myers, preceded Tom in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Rick Myers(Vicki), Steven Myers(Barbara), David Myers(Darlene) and Daniel Myers; seven grandchildren and a host of other great grandchildren, family members and friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 2 pm until 8 pm at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home in Okolona. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 11am at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home in Okolona with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to Mass of the Air or the Honor Flight Bluegrass.
